well, they are there for a reason and that's helping keep the pads spread away from the rotors. I'd run them. it's pretty easy to do. the worst part(for me) is sliding the pin through while keeping the clip in place.

They are not there to look good so they must serve a purpose. I would put them on just for the piece of mind I get from knowing my car is put together correctly. Just because the previous owner did a hack job does not mean you should follow suit.

I don't know how come it didn't have those springs. Previous owner was women, chief of one company, she bought this car in 03 with 40kmi, car was serviced at dealership all the time, even oil changes were performed at dealer, 90kmi service done, belts, water pump, lower ball joints ....... everything was up to date etc. I bought the car when it had 118kmi, now it has 124kmi. She had all records, and according to them, brake pads(front and rear) were changed not too long ago at dealer as well, they're OEM. As I said before I thought brake pads were worn due to squeaking sound but when I removed them, they were almost new. Well anyway, I'll go and put those springs today, just to keep car in excellent shape

I just did a rear brake job last night complete with new rotors. Removing the left side rotor was a pain as the parking brake was hung up on the inside of the rotor. The new rotor went on fine without having to adjust the parking brake down. When everything was put back together I got some really loud clicks coming from the rear which I assumed was the brake adjusting itself as drum brakes are apt to do. On the test drive I heard some really loud ticking coming from the left rear. My car did NOT have the 'M' springs. It DID have the anti-squeal springs which I did not reinstall as I assumed I would not need them with the Thermoquiet pads.
Looks like I am off to the store to get a new anti-squeal kit.

Hey I'm bringing back this thread because I just bought a rear brake pad fitting kit for a 2000 GS300 from the Lexus dealership. It didn't come with the "M" springs. The package was sealed and I asked them to check another one and it was always not in it. We looked on the computer and it shows the springs with the kit.

The part number is 04948-30071

So then I went to Advance Auto and went to buy their kit and it also didn't come with the "M" springs.

The GS300 I have has the springs so I will have to reuse them. Anyone else know where I can get new "M" springs?

PepBoys kit had them. The hardware pic I posted above was from them.

Ok my friend at the Lexus dealer was able to get them for me. He had to order them separate.

For future referance, the part number is 47743-30050

Did anyone on this thread "bed" their brakes after installing new pads?!
