I'm looking to lower my IS (/w X-Package) as well using Tanabe Sustec Pro FIVE coilovers. I'm not too familiar either... so, would I need a chamber kit? Or can I just get those find a reputable shop?

To the OP. I think you should get coilovers. Do it right the first time. I have Tein CS coilovers with EDFC and it has the stock smoothness but also handle very well. What I learned is that suspension is one of the most important aftermarket mod for a car. Just do it right so you don't have to worry about it in the future.

What will determine comfort is the spring rate. The lower the spring rate, the softer the ride. TEIN CS coilovers are very smooth riding, because they have a spring rate of 392 lbs/in. For comparison, the TEIN SS springs are 504 lbs/ins. Much higher number = stiffer ride.

one thing, if your slammed your GONNA scrape, no way around it no matter how careful you are... AND if your not scraping~ your not low enough
as for the ride... from my own experience, Eibachs ride better than stock due to the 'progressive' nature of the springs. Coils are better due to the adjustability of both height and comfort.
AND LASTLY...
Airrunner is the balla setup, no worries about scraping at all.

eibachs for springs, nothing beats coilovers on comfort because of full adjustability...
air is ballin...
buy my coilovers i'll go air...

thanks for this info! so whats the difference betwteen cs and ss? (confort street? super street?)
once again i care mostly how the car will feel and probably will drop 1 and half inch. but between just lower springs and coil overs are springs better or coil overs? for confort thought not for drop

Our cars almost look identical!!!
Our cars almost look identical!!!
No camber kits for us yet...just put it all the way down even drop it and make sure to set your settings to your liking! Even though it only goes down like 2.25-2.5 in...once your suspension settles...its gonna look super lowered! My friend was right, once u go low...u wanna go slammed!!! Here's another pic...

CS (Comfort sport) has a softer spring rate for a smoother ride (again because of the spring rate), SS coilovers have a harsher, more performance oriented ride due to the higher spring rate.

The ride depends on:
1. What type of coilovers you get
2. How low or high you adjust it (this will also determine how your car will look as well)
3. Road conditions
4. What type of driver you are
If you go for comfort...Tein CS
If you want both lowered look and comfort...Tanabe Sustec Pro 5
If you want lowered look...Tein SS
If you want slammed look...Air Bags or Megan Coils
*Just remember...you are driving it, so if you can tolerate it low/slammed, go all the way...

So where does JIC coils fall under?
