Default Bilstein shocks? What else do you prefer with my setup?

i just recently bought some H and R sport springs for my 2000 gs300 and tried to do the install in the front to myself. It was much harder than i had expected and i think i messed up too the vsc and abs lights came on and i think i might of tweaked the sensor wire.

after all that someone had told me that my stock shocks probably would give out after another 10k miles, so now im looking into buying some new shocks and having a shop install them before i do any further damages.

Im looking for a good comfortable ride and im not much of a performance type guy.

what shocks do you guys think would best fit what im trying to do? and how much would an install be for shocks and im assuming they would also fix my springs when they install my shocks right?

If you can afford it...go for it. It's expensive.

When I was looking at getting new springs installed I only found three aftermarket strut manufactures for our cars. Based on my research here this is the general consensus:

Gabriel - No Reviews
KYB - Slightly Firmer then OE like
Bilstein - Much Firmer then OE

Can't help with cost but the Search button can.

You'll probably want KYB's over Bilstein if you want a smoother ride. And if you're going to have a shop do it, the money saved from buying the KYB's can go toward the install. And yes, they'll "fix" your springs (assuming somethings wrong, you had just mentioned the vsc and abs) when installing the new struts since they'll have to take them off to install the new struts.

Isn't Gabriel the cheap brand Autozone sells?

The KYB would be my choice.

thanks for the replies but i went with the bilestiens.
i wanted to get the kyb since it was a lot cheaper but i had several shops tell me that the kyb shocks arent made for lowered cars and basically stock shocks and wont last as long.

i hope my bilestiens will last me a while and it feels close to stock as of right now just slightly more firm.

I bet several hundred Lexus owners here would probably disagree. I hope they did not say that the Bilsteins WERE made for lowered cars cause they certainly are not marketed that way. Let us know how they ride. I know my KYB's are definitely not stock.

Oh yeah......

Yep...ur just like me...need rims. I've got 20' mexican rims in the garage for 4 months and didn't want to install them. I guess I'll put them on sooner or later. Eventually, I will go with 18' oem and upgrade to an LS400 brake (without using RCA;remove some thread).

Keep it up!

Good question - I forgot they even made the Sports for our cars since all I read about is HD's.

its sport, yet again ive been told by tire rack that with lowered cars your suppose to go with the sports. but the ride is still somewhat smooth. i would even say near stock. the handling is much more stiff though
