Default removing front brakes on sc400. bolt wont come off(help)

im changing my pads, rotors, and calipers on the sc400. but the damn 17mm bolts holding the caliper bracket wont budge. everything else came off with enough force and a slight hammer tap on the wrench. unfortunately i cant get my impact gun in there and ive already tried the biggest breaker bar i could fit underneath the wheel well. im getting to the point that im thinking the bolts might be reverse threaded. can anyone confirm weather or not the bolt are regular threads or reverse threads. also has anyone else had this problem with the 17mm bolts? i've tried soaking it in wd40 for the past few days already and it still wont budge. any help will be greatly appreciated cuz i need this car back on the road soon. it really sucks having to drive my family's dodge caravan instead of the sc and the gtr is still stored for winter.

Have u try going the other way cuz ur might be in the opposite direction? The cold could affect the bolt too cuz the cold could make the bolt stick to the metal like when u stick ur tongue out and stick it to metal in the cold. Try using PB blaster, it works too or use a heat gun to heat the bolt up.

use a breaker bar, which is adding more length to your wrench... that's what I had to do to make it budge... works much better than having to use so much torque by hitting it with a hammer or torque gun, which will lead to stripping the bolts...

Just to clarify, the handle of the ratchet should turn clockwise if you are facing the front of the rotor. I think mine were on there pretty tight so I used the oem jack to support the ratchet handle and kept raising it until it came loose.

Regular threads on all of mine. I have never found a bolt that did not respond to BP Blaster later followed by heat and a large breaker bar.

When you re-install, I'd recommend using spark plug anti-seize on the bolt for next time. Good luck with it.

im spinning it the correct way for sure. already tried a breaker bar with a 17mm socket as well as a 17mm wrench. tried soaking it in wd40 but that hasnt worked so i know decided to go for PB blaster. i just bought one can and i hope it works. so far i heard nothing but good things about PB blaster.

Yeah I had this problem. I bought a propane torch to get them off. No amount of oil would help... just had to heat it up and use a breaker bar. They are regular threads fyi... just REALLY tight.

i'll try the pb blaster then go back to the torch. its hard for me though. cuz the car is on the driveway and its usually snowing or really windy here in toronto. so the torch sometimes doesnt even light up.

so much better to work on if you have access to a lift, better angles for leverage...

Just to let you know the oil and fire don't mix... So i wouldn't do PB blaster then torch otherwise u would go BOOM! Wash it with water or something to get all the oil out then torch it... Or wait until it get warm or hot weather which it in couple months. But good luck!

use the weight of the car to your advantage ... usually when i have a bolt that won't budge, i use a jack to help me out ... what you do is have the jack raise the ratchet and with the weight of th car that bolt should loosen right up ... raise it slowly

pb blaster did the job. soaked it for several days, a few sprays each day and it came off so easily with just my body weight on the breaker bar. thanks everyone for all the input it feels so good driving the sc again. now all i need is more snow and i should be happy. lol.
