Default What's so great about them?

I hear people upgrade to the LS400 brakes... why?

i searched but i couldn't understand WHY they would upgrade... is it because the SC brakes are like... defective?

The rotors are bigger, the pad surface is increased a bit, and the calipers themselves are 4 pistons rather than the OEM 2 pistons. Plus they're almost half the weight of OEM pistons (trade off is the rotors weigh a tiny bit more)

the ls400 calipers are larger, 4 piston v.s. stock 2 piston i believe. The more pistons, the more powerful and even force can be applied usually over a larger area on the rotor.

I..see the technical info, and it looks like its bigger and less heavy..

If you were to try to tell a regular joe to buy the LS4 brakes rather than replace the ones they currently have, what would you say?

HEY punk....wanna slow down faster??? ..get LS400 brakes (even then, technically, with stock tire widths you wouldnt slow down faster, you would just have cooler brakes under heavy use. you would have to have a wider tire to be able to handle the greater stopping force without overcoming traction)

I'll tell him to keep the OEM brakes and replace the pads. For the average Joe who doesn't drive his car like he stole it, the 'upgrade' wont really benefit. If you drive on the street like any other civilized human being, all you need is an upgrade in pad and you're good to go. DO NOT expect to get shorter stopping distance unless you have tires so sticky that your OEM brakes can't even lock your rotors in place. Now if you do some tracking/autocrossing here and there, you may appreciate the ls400 brakes more. Downside is that your brake bias will be shifted towards the front a bit so that may upset the balance.
