Default Decisions, LCAs, springs/shocks, tires...

Hello CL.

So my two rear tires are so bald they're practically slicks.
So my two rear springs are faulty and have no bounce whatsoever.
So my I have horrible bump steering so my LCAs, etc. need help.

I am a student, I am broke, I am in love with my car and won't give it up for anything. How do I take the best care of it with these three problems? Obviously the tires should be the first but I need these things taken care of because it hurts to hear my shocks puff and squeak when I go 60mph over a speed hump.

CL, which of these problems do I murder first?

replace the shocks/springs first. Inspect the ball joints and bushings while replacing the shocks/springs to get an idea of what needs to be replaced.

If the ball joints are bad..I would tackle those next, followed by bushings, then new tires and alignment

Don't forget:"Let your fingers do the walking". And better yet: "Let the shop find the problems".

Take you car to a front end specialist and give him a list of complaints about your car and it's ride and handling. He will inspect it and give you a written estimate for what needs to be done. Tell him your Dad will help with the bill but he wants a couple written estimates first and don't mention that till he has finished the inspection. Do that a couple times and then check for which items are repeated. The guy with all the extra stuff the second guy never found "might" be padding the bill with extra work. Any doubts and get a "third" estimate. And, this will give you a pretty good idea of how much each task should cost. You are entitled to this service as a potential customer and, after all, you "might" be going back there for some of the work, right? This will also let you call other shops to get their charge on doing the work you NEED and that is letting you fingers do the rest of the walking.

You can find out what you would save by doing the work yourself by pricing the parts on the net and all those guys are not equal in their charges...buyer beware. You are not scamming anyone here but just being a prudent shopper and if you are a starving student you had better be prudent.....right?

Good luck Young Skywalker( Lex Driver)

60mph and go through the speed hump?
You Probably mean just a little bump but it sounded funny...
