I wasn't too sure how to properly title this thread but ...

It seems that just about everyone that has ever upgraded their brakes on the SC have a problem with the brakes feeling soft or mushy ... and I too have had the same experience. There's a lot of people that say that the reason is because the brake bias on our cars is not the same as the LS or the Supra ... but that soft feeling can be resolved if we swap out the master cylinder.

Now just recently I was able to get IS350 calipers on my car and I have to say that the soft or mushy feeling is not there at all, the brakes bite with the slightest press on the pedal. They feel the way brakes should! I don't feel like I have to press all the way down to the floor to come to a quick stop ... its actually the opposite, I feel like I have to be more careful when pressing the brakes to make sure that I don't come to a jolting stop.


So this leads me to ask ... and please be aware that I am trying very hard to ask a question that could possibly help find a solution to that soft feeling ...

Could it be that the LS and the TT brakes feel soft because of the valving in the pistons?

you changed the MC for a new one or one from another car??? and how are those caliper brakets holding up with the IS calipers ????

no I still have my stock MC, and the brackets are holding up very well.

ss lines an stop tec brakes do it fine with some slotted rotors

All that slotted rotors will do is wear out your pads faster. Get a set of nice premium blanks, good ss lines, flush and upgrade to dot 4 or higher fluid and some nice pads and you are good to go...

I dunno my car has TT brakes up front with stock rears, and if you tap my brakes it will throw you through the windshield!

my brakes are really sensitive and you just barely have to touch them to stop.

status....

i got tt's up front and stocks in the back. iu notice the better braking power but the pedal travel is more than when i had the stock brakes. the system was flushed with new fluid and bled properly so i'm hoping it might get better when i remove the abs stuff

There's lots of variables that come into play.

The TT brake system was redesigned in 97' for better pedal feel, so if you get a brake master, Buy a 97+ if you you have a 95+ SC because the brake master is 1.06 opposed to 1.0 diameter.

My TT brakes were mushy afterwards because I had the rear calipers on the wrong sides of the car(bleeders should be at the top).

One time I drove a 92 sc400 with a 1j swap and it had ls400 calipers on it and all I did was just take the car for a test drive. When I kicked the car into boost it moved well ( it's stock). But When tapped the brakes my head whipped forward and I never expected that the car would stop almost faster that it accelerates... LOL.
