i just purchased a set of ls400 for a killer deal!.. i have one question before tackling this DIY.. how do i remove the dust cover?.. i've read on planet soarer that you cut it out.. how do i do this?.. i dont want to take everything off tm and get stuck half way through the process.. so anyone please help answer my question... thanks..

a grinder if you have the tools. If not some shears will work just fine. After you cut a slit in the shield it's easy to bend it out of the way.

alright thanks.. i will be putting them in tm.. so remove the wheel.. remove the calipers... clamp the line.. take off the line.. take off rotors.. take off dust cover.. put everything back in reverse?

if you read the diy on planet soarer you shouldnt be making that last post.

in essence you are right but i would refrain from crimping or clamping the brake lines.

i would remove everything but leave the original caliper still attached to the line. install all the new ls400 hardware and THEN remove the line and right away reinstall in on the ls400 caliper.

its not that critical how fast you put it on. you will have to bleed your brakes afterwards no matter what.

when you bleed the brakes make sure to do the driver side first. its the side closest to the master cylinder but it is NOT the shortest. reason being that the ABS unit is on the passenger side of the car. thus the passenger brake line is shorter.

btw i used regular metal shears to remove the dust shield. its paper-thin and doesnt require much effort to cut.

Interesting and good to know.

OP: Look into speed bleeders. They'll save you a lot of time/headache. may have some trouble getting them by tomorrow though.

Cut the section where it is at the thinnest point and then use a hammer to bang it out of the hub.

so i finish the ls400 bbk swap today.. it was pretty simple.. then i bled the brakes.. awesome stopping power.. but is it me.. or does it feel a little rougher.. when it is stopping?

In a safe area, apply brakes moderately from 60mph to 30mph and then drive approximately 1/2 mile to allow the brakes to cool. Repeat this procedure approximately 15 times with the LS brakes.

well my rotors were used.. do i still have to do it?.. i picked up the ls4 bbk for only 50 bucks.. from a wrecked lexus.. he was parting it out here in kc..
