Angry Need help with a #%@$#% stripped Ichiba spacer nut

(not sure if this is in the right section of the forum)

Okay, to make a long story short, one of the nuts that holds the spacer onto my front-right hub is stripped. I was taking off Ichiba version 2 15mm spacers (that use a regular thin 17mm nut, not the older version with the pins) and as I was removing the last nut (#10 of 10, the other side came off fine and 4 of 5 on the right came off fine) the thing stripped. A buddy and i tried everything we know, from heating up the nut, to attempting to pound on a 16mm socket... problem with that is the nut itself is pretty thin, and the base of the nut (well, the part that a socket would sit on) is rounded which didn't help either. Now i have a spacer with one single stripped nut holding it on. I need to get this crap off. If I sound a little angry, forgive me - but stuff like this, where there's just one little thing in the way of completing a job - really can get annoying

If anyone can help out and/or point me to a shop that can get this thing off, I'd really appreciate it. grrr!!

Isn't a bolt-out kit for bolts, not nuts?

I used a similar set like this to remove a stripped bolt:

Not sure that will work, the nut is recessed (we couldn't get a 1/2 impact socket in there)

Your best bet would probably be just to cut/drill/break that lug stud off and just replace the stud.

take a cut-off wheel and surgically cut the nut off. go slow and dont damage the threads.

it can be done. be patient.

Yeah that's the best conclusion I could come up with too with the least amount of damage...bringing the Dremel home from the office tonight, we'll see how this goes

Didn't get it done with a Dremel, went to a local shop and it took a combination of a rotary grinder, an air chisel, and some vise grips to get the spacer off. Funny, I had to re-install the other spacer lock nuts to drive to the shop, then I got to the shop another nut stripped out. They basically chopped the spacer half way through where the two studs were, cut the studs, chiselled the nuts out, then replaced the studs. PITA, but hey - they only charged me $40 for the whole job (including replacing two studs).

I will never run spacers again. I'm sure there's people here that have not had any problems with spacers - that's fine - but personally after this I'd never recommend cheap spacers.

It's not the spacers fault... can happen with regular studs as well... That's good you got it done, I was about to say to bring it over but don't really know where you are at.

Yeah it was just frustrating... but hey - at least I bought new wheels with offsets that don't need spacers
