Need Advise for my rear suspension!
Hello guys, I just bought a 1994 sc400..very thing look good and drive excellent..the only problem that the rear suspension is bad..I think shocks is gone..everytimes I go over the bumps or backing out the driveway..I can feel it hit very hard..the car cann't even bounch when I pressed hard at the bumper..so my question is do I just replace the rear shocks or the struts and shocks altogether? how about the springs? is that need to be replace too? I like the stock look..I don't need to be lower..the car drive very straight and only 125k on the car...what is your advise for the make/model? cost for them? also is this a easy DIY job? I did alot of engine and brakes jobs before but not the suspension. any input help alot! thanks

From the sounds of it, it isn't your shocks. If you push the rear and it don't bounce, your shocks are fine (usually). More than likely, it's worn bushings. To see if your shocks are blown for sure, take off the wheels and see if the shocks are leaking. They should be dry (even a little wetness means they have gone bad). The rear shocks are an easy replacement though...1-2 hours tops. And they are replaced with the springs still attached as an assembly. If you want to see how it's done, see here.

It comes out as an assembly but if you replace just the shocks, you'll have to transfer over your springs and mounts and if the boots are torn, you'll have to get new ones. Best bet for factory ride is OEM shocks but KYB GR2's are nearly as good (do a search for reviews). And if you decide on OEM shocks, get them for a 97-00 SC as they are about half the price (about $70 for rears and $45 for fronts) but identical to the older ones.
