Default Stabilizer Links

Ok so TLE2006 and I were installing the rear sway bar today. We got the car on the lift and then following the first step, we tried to disconnect the bar from the stabilizer link. The bolt kept turning and it says to use 6mm hex but it didn't fit in there (probably because of rust). So we used a T-40 torx and it worked until the screw was almost at the end and then started to strip the inside a little. But now the 6mm hex is too big.

Some guys at the shop where we were at tried to get it to turn but ended up squeezing the grease out of the rubber housing. As of now, the screws are loose but not all the way out and we can't loosen or tighten them. Is there any short term safety issues driving that way? Any suggestions on trying to get it off? Any idea how much it would cost to get new stabilizer links?

Thanks in advance.
