Question Question for you brake experts

What parts are needed to convert the SC4 brakes to the Supra TT setup. Here is what I think I need to buy...
Supra TT calipers
New Rotors (going with the cross drilled kind)
Brake pads
Brake lines (will the GS brake lines fit?)

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

GS lines (if designed for a GS) won't fit, you'll need Supra-specific ones.

I have 1 set of the crossdrilled rotors laying around here if you might want them at a pretty good price.

Cross-drilled rotors will crack. Don't get 'em. Get slotted if you must.

You'll need larger wheels as well with at least an offset of +50mm.

I don't know where you're getting the idea that "cross-drilled" rotors will crack. Now I know of some cases where people just pound the $h!t out of their brakes and they warp and crack. But check out all those big brake kits, they are cross-drilled. I don't know about your experiences, but i've had my set for almost 2 years and no problems.

I guess it's just a personal preference.

I have seen pictures of cross-drilled and slotted rotors that crack.

If the cd-ed rotors aren't made correctly they have an increased chance of cracking under stress from everything I've read.

If you don't drive your car hard though you probably won't see it for a long time, I suspect. On a sports car it'll show up quick on a trip to the track, etc.

YMMV.

Hmmm, I have slotted and cross drilled rotors and I don't have any cracks...I think I have 10K+ miles on them now....AP Racing setup...

Qbranch also has this setup and he tracks his car, I know he recently replaced his pads/discs...he can tell you his experience with it...

But "incorrect" cross-drilling will definitely shorten the life of the rotor...personaly, I would go with slotted only rotors over crossed drilled only rotors...

Someone once listed a list of required parts (I believe if was a list for Carson Toyota to sell a complete kit). I'd like to see it as well. Do a search an re-post the results.

Yeah, I'm going to do the Carson Toyota kit. The url is https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=17962

The reason I asked is because I was seaching on the CL boards and some people have said they needed new brackets and others have said they don't need them. Some have said they needed a shim and spring kit, others said they didn't need them. It's kinda confusing to hear conflicting reports on the same upgrade.

I'm also going with cross-drilled rotors. So far I've been able to find out that cross-drilled rotors will crack with rotors that have been cross-drilled incorrectly or not meant to be cross-drilled at all. Plus, everyones experience with cross-drilled rotors on this board has been positive.

If the holes in the rotor are drilled too rapidly,or with a dull drill bit,the tiny cracks will be there from the start, heat expansion will spread the cracks further.
The only two companies I would go with for drilled rotors are Autospecialty, and Brembo.

hellas.....These ar the parts that I used to upgrade my brakes. Just the calipers, rotors, pads, lines and yes you do need the springs/clips. Its an easy job to do, they bolt right on without any special brackets or anything else. The toughest part in my opinion was to remove the dust shields(just cut em off).
I say go for the crossdrilled rotors. I have had Brembo's for over a year and no cracks. You'll be amazed at the braking power. Here's a pic

Gadget: What springs/clips are you reffering to?

Thanks for the previous info, and how much for the Brembo rotors?

Also, where did you get the lines from?

I assume he's talking about the spring (called an anti-rattle clip IIRC in the manual) that goes between the pad retainers and the clip that holds those retainers in place... ?

If that's what he's referring to then you'd better get both.

Keith...Quick is right, the anti-rattle clip goes between the pads to keep them form rattleing or constantly rubbing against the rotors when not braking.
I got my rotors and pads from and a place called MVP Motorsports...They were about $150 ea., the rears were about $170 ea. Dont quote me on the prices.
I ordered my TRDss lines from a toyota dealer at $150 front and rear set.

Heck yeah I'm right. I own and drive a Supra TT and just replaced my front pads Saturday.

You can get pads and rotors cheaper than that from Jay Marks Toyota... call Jeff Watson.
