have you disconnected yours? There is absolutely no difference in feel at any speed. the car feels stable and never feels like it is going to break loose or that there is no control. I thought all this did was provide extra boost to the steering when the car was at low speeds, now i have consistent boost to the steering the whole way through

The steering can't feel the same.. With the power boost, assist whatever its called (LOL) disconnected, the steering feels heavier. That we all agree with. At low speeds the steering feels stiffer, if you will, because the weight of the vehicle is on the front tires.. As you begin to gain momentum, the weight transfers to the rear, allowing the steering to be easier and not as heavy, almost a sloppy feel to it..
With the power assist connected, this prevents the sloppy feel and provides a tighter steering..

I think you are wrong. Im not positive either but the way I understand it is this:
The system provides multiple levels of power assist. Removing the wire either makes it so the system provides the minimum assist until a certain speed then works normally. Or removing the wire makes the system provide the minimum assist all the time.
Once a car is moving it takes little effort to turn the wheels. From what I have read I am leaning toward my second guess. Heavy assist at low speeds so women can drive it and not complain. Light assist at high speed so you don't accidentally run yourself off the road looking at the cute girl in the next lane.

does it disable assist all the way? I'd be worried about burning the rack up. That boost is what also prevents the gears inside the rack from seeing too much stress on the steering wheel side.
