Default L-Tuned Steering ECU Install Help Needed.

A few people have pointed out that the l- tuned steering ecu can be installed without taking the panel off. I guess all you need is #10 socket with extension. Can anyone with experience, let me know exactly where the location is under the steering panel. Here are a few pics. Thanks!

By the way- Does the main ecu need to be reset (disconnect battery) for this steering ecu upgrade to take effect? Thanks.

Look thru the hole underneath the parking brake release handle. You'll see the steering ECU. Also stick the socket extension thru the same opening to unscrew the ECU.

Can someone detail this location on the picture I have included? I have searched every post and the DIY does not explain it:

Thanks.

Look for the thread on 10/02/01 for a reference. I followed it before and found what should be very helpful. Involves dropping the panel, and is supposed to take 20 minutes.

Dude, why not just take off the cover? It's trivial. I don't see how you could get to the ECU from any location on your pictures.

bad-gs400,

I just installed the ECU a couple nights ago. I only removed the bottom panel like you becuse I couldn't figure out how to take apart the other panel. The instructions #5 on the ltuneecu.htm don't really tell you where the location of the one screw is. Anyways, I messed with the pics you sent and tried to give you a ball park as to where the ecu is. I brought the socket wrench from underneath where the bottom panel was, but I was looking thru the hole under the parking brake release handle.

good luck...

jawnthen- Thanks for the detail in the picture. I tried taking off the panel right above the gas/brake pedal, which had 2 bolts and a clip. The only issue is the center is basically attached by something. Does this just pop out or is there a hidden bolt? It looks like if this comes off, it will be easy to get at the ECU. Any thoughts? Thanks.

The center is held in by a hidden clip. Just gently tug twist it and it will pop off.
