Default How to increase your car's handling for $25!!

Hey guys,

As I was on the hunt for a strut bar, I saw a lot of high priced items, such as the carbing and TRD bars. I wasn't going to spend $200 on a piece of metal that connects the strut towers together.

I checked Ebay, the only SC300/400 strut bar was upwards of $75. BUT I lucked out and found a 93-98 Supra Non turbo strut bar for $25 shipped. These don't come around often, and there are lots of MK3 ones, but not many MKIV ones.

I won't post the ebay link, but you can probably find one by searching for supra non turbo strut bar.

It fit perfectly and cleared my 1JZGTE without issue, and really complements the look of the engine bay.

Not bad for $25. I haven't had a test drive yet, but I'll post up any impressions a bit later.

I'll be adding a brake master cylinder brace as well.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks,
-Freddy

Yes it will. I had the bar on my old LS400 and it would not clear; but on my 96 SC4 it transferred perfectly. The crossbar has an adjustable pivot by design.

Theoretically, it keeps the distance between the shock towers static under all conditions. Depending on the torsional rigidity of a chassis, the top of the shock towers can flex enough to affect in turn camber, kind of like a capital "V" getting wider at the top when stressed.

Sorry. I can only verify that it will fit pre-VVTi 400s. It is a popular item on Ebay. Someone out there must know.

if it doesn't fit put it back on ebay as a "SC300/Soarer" strut bar and sell it for 50 bucks.. lol

Tavarish - I haven't had a test drive yet, but I'll post up any impressions a bit later.
probably won't notice anything from just adding a front strut bar, i personally feel they are more for looks, if you have a pretty good suspension setup, front, rear strut bars, sway bars, coilovers it might add to it all. Just adding a front strut bar won't make much of a difference on it's own though, $25 is a nice pick up though, i'm definetly not dissing strut bars i had a nice greddy one on my SC..

I definitely noticed a more composed feel on turns, and eliminated a certain amount of body roll. The strut bar lets the shocks work more efficiently. I'll also install my TT sways, new CA bushings, and the car should handle quite nicely.

body roll eliminated by a strut bar?

unless your chassis is held together by elmers glue it wont do as much as you say.

from your pictures the design of it is inferior as well. the way it connects the horizontal bar to the mounting plates is the weak point. it will flex there before your chassis will.

nice way to add weight to your car though

yeah i'm sure the couple pounds the strut bar makes will take a few seconds of your 1/4 time......it would probably hurt your slalom performance too! and on top of everything its gonna look so ugly as a nice clean new modification under the hood............
