Default How necessary is it to rebuild coilovers every year??

Just as the title asks, how necissary is it?

From what i understood is that heard tht coils need to be rebuilt every so often (~ 1 year??)

The reason this concenrs me, is id have to send the coils im considering over to Japan to get refurbished at the cost of $150-$200 for each coilover. This price doesnt include shipping (which will be a b!%ch) + wait time.

To do this yearly would be a royal pain in the ***.

All the tuning shops ive spoken to here, have either said they have never heard about it and or say its not necissary. That kinda shows u the quality of the tuners we got in Dubai. The Tom's distributor has the advox coils on his car, has had it on there for 2 yeards with around 80,000km driven and has never rebuilt his. He says its running fine. He hasnt even heard of rebuilding coils but then again he isnt really a car guy.

So to all of you guys with coils; how often do u rebuild ur coils? how long do they last without being rebuilds?

I don't think you need to rebuild every year, unless you're doing some serious off road action. On my last car I had some Tein SS coilovers and i had it for about 3 years, close to about 60k miles before they started going out on me. By then instead of rebuilding it and the wait time, i went ahead and bought a new set.

Every year? It's not like an oil change where you need to service them every so many miles. I rebuild my coils when they need rebuilding.

^Depends on a few things:

-Driving habits
-How much you slam the car
-Quality of the coilovers you buy.

Not necessary at all to rebuild on a time based cycle.

Rebuild when they are shot, that's it. Or if you feel like you want to freshen them up....you're choice.

The only reason why people talk about rebuilding coilovers is because the racers that spend huge bucks on coilovers want them to perform like new for every race, so they rebuild them between racing seasons. For street cars, there isn't any reason to rebuild or replace them any more often than you would regular shocks.

Obviously, that would depend on who rebuilds them, but I would expect it to be $200 or less per damper.
