so four days ago i got a good deal on some 20's and was able to get rid of the fugly v6 mustang wheels that my car came with. i stupidly mounted them with cheap chrome lugnuts which ive always had bad luck with from overtorqueing. so the other day i took a 150 mile commute and one of my wheel studs on my rear passenger wheel snapped and 2 other lugnuts came loose. my wheel began to shake and wobble viciously so i pulled over and tighted them cuz i only had about 10 miles to get home. the car still shook a little even with the lugs tightened. so i switched all the chrome to steel. then yesterday i took the car to my local toyota dealer and had the broken stud replaced, and they said they didnt notice anything else needing attention. but today when i took the car onto the freeway, that rear wheel was still shaking after 65mph. so i took it back to toyota and they inspected and said that my upper ball joint is cracked and the car cannot be driven. i questioned the fact that they're technician didnt mention anything about a broken upper ball joint, and they said its not theyre responsibility to look for that. so im stuck with a quote of $770 and no money. and the worst part is, im moving tomorrow morning for college 60 miles away from home completely car-less.

the reason i didnt go to the lexus dealership is because the closest one to where i live is 30 miles away and i didnt think the car was safe enough.

any cost-cutting suggestions that will still leave the car safe as if the dealer did it?

sorry, im new to lexus. i used to drive a honda where anything could be replaced aftermarket.

buy the part do it yourself it's not hard . look around i'm sure the part number is here on the forum and have it towed to a cheaper shop sounds like they are out of control 500 in labor is insane for that job

I'm with everyone else. Get the part and do it yourself. It's not that hard. And changing the wheel stud is about a 15-20 minute job with air tools.

Btw do you have hubcentric rings for your wheels? That could be a reason for the broken stud.

Also that's not really a good title for the thread. I don't think the mods like that. They will most likely change it for you though. Just a heads up.

I think he's looking for a solution in between stealership and DIY. Try an independent shop in your area for the repair, should be a bit less.
