Ahh, so the price of basic coilovers.

You know, if KONI made their sport shocks, i'd be all over those.

If i bought the F-Sport shocks, that's about $450. I usually install the stuff myself, so i would only be out of pocket another $450 instead of $1500

Thanks for all of your opinions, messrs!

Keep them coming!
I was wondering where are you going to buy your f-sport shocks from? thats a good price!

I've been thinking about H&R's w/ stock shocks. Wise decision or no good? Is it true that H&R are the best springs for AWD? I've got about 15k now (everything stock for now, upgrading to 19"x8.5 soon).

sorry can't help with first question. But regarding your 'best springs' question, yes and no. i've read that the H&R can give a very harsh ride for the AWD IS. For RWD, they're fine. Of course everyone has different tolerance level, so what's very harsh for someone might be acceptable to someone else. But i guess the point is you can expect H&Rs to be harsher on AWD than RWD. click on the link below to read more.

now as for the best drop, the consensus is that H&R gives the best drop that springs can give you for the IS.

With stock shocks, i want to say they are too soft. Although I have sways, the already soft nature of the shocks produces more body lean than desired.

That is why I am thinking of getting F-Sport shocks. If i wanted to go lower (which i do), again, i'd go coils, but the area i drive around.... i can't be any lower than what the H&R drop already gives me.

yet another reason why I suggest coilovers my brotha... adjustable dampening & adjustable spring rates. right now i'm running 10K front 8k rear and i would consider it a bit soft... i think 12/10 would be a bit firmer w/ less body roll so I would suggest going w/ that if you went BCR.

ALSO!

adjustable dampening. BCR offers 30 possibilities 0-30. right now i'm sitting at 15 all 4 corners and enjoy it, nice balance between comfort n' sporty feel. but if you want stiffer shocks (why your looking into f-sport), then heck, you can dial these up to 20, 25 or even fully hard which is 30. i'll tell you 30 is barily tollerable to drive on its so friggin stiff, but the nice thing is you now get your CHOICE in dampening, vs. f-shocks where you have to HOPE you like it, if not your stuck.

i'm telling you man, BCR ftw. the noise issues i'm having right now was due to install. i'm having it fixed, so you shouldn't have any noise issues at all.

i truly think you would enjoy BCR's

thanks mdgrwl, you are totally pressuring me into getting coils.

It is VERY appealing as of now.
  1. Dampening Adjustability
  2. Ride Height Adjustability
  3. Direct plug-and-play, no need for spring compressors when installing
  4. Easy to go back to stock
  5. No need for rebuild, just exchange cartridges?

lol, no problem... Just know I have no 'sales interest' in this... I get nothing out of you buying coilovers. I'm just trying to help a fellow CL member out because I made the costly mistake of going w/ springs 3 different times between my IS350 and my wifes IS250awd... I WISH I went w/ coilovers the first time around, would of saved me a lot of cash.

Not only that, but yes, all of the benifits you listed above, and yup, simple cartridge swap and your back up n running.

hey mdgrwl, thanks for all your analysis and info on the different type of springs you had and your current BCR setup. I'm currently deciding between the springs or coilovers, and from your experience and analysis it makes the best sense to get coilovers. Thanks again for your contribution, its people like you that help make a forum that much valuable for visitors and members
