Default hub-rings - are they necessary?

Anybody have any knowledge or actual experience on this topic, related to aftermarket wheel usage?

It helps, before I put them on I was experiencing vibrations.

They are not necessary but you might get vibrations if you do not use them. Hubcentric rings will keep your wheel centered, so when you put your lug nuts on, they will be perfectly centered. An uncentered lug nut is what causes the vibrations.

I didn't use them on my Integra and after about a year I had serious vibrations. After further inspection, I found that all my wheel bearings were toast(and a PITA to change). Without the rings it puts alot of stress on the bearings which causes them to wear out super fast.

We're talking about $11 per ring for some high-quality aluminium stuff.

Plastic is better cause those aluminum ones will seize. And you can get all four of them for like $15.

not required...but highly recommended.

they basically ensure you mount your aftermarket wheels in the center of the hub...if not...vibration will occur.

its fairly inexpensive...under $20 for a set of 4 plastic ...shipped. i bought them for every wheel i've owned....won't mount any wheel without hubcentric rings.

It is far better to buy a wheel that is Hubcentric for the vehicle you are installing the wheel on, I won't install a wheel on my car that was not designed for the car

Another reason to not ignore the vibrations, is that these vibrations do create 'flat spots' on the tires and cause uneven wear to a certain extent. Personally i buy them right away, just to not have to endure more than 5 mins of the annoying vibration.

True, but come on, what are the chances of you coming across that??

I buy my rims used, i do not see a purpose in buying new, paying a premium, when i simply get new rims the next year.

And, to my knowledge, a lot of manufacturer's of aftermarket rims will still use a generic center bore on multi-fit rims, and oftentimes than not with 200$ or 2000$ rims you still need to use hubcentric rings.

Yup, mine cost $12 for a set of four. I'd rather have them on than get wheel vibration that could potentially cause a bunch of problems. You'll know that your wheels are centered/seated properly.

I wonder why car companys go to all that expense to make a wheel that only fits 1 model, heck Porsche makes a different wheel for each different model & tire width
