I live in Toronto and for the past 3 years when its cold outside I hear a squeaking noise that comes from my brake master cylinder after I let go of the brake pedal. It only happens in winter when its cold out but each year the problem gets a little worse so I recently took it into Lexus to get checked out. They said my master cylinder is failing and I should get it replaced. It's $1,800 at Lexus and I can't seem to find a refurbished one around here.

Any suggestions?

a great resource is www.car-part.com, its a database for junkyard parts. There are quite a few on there for under $500.

Yeah man, I have the same problem with mine, except it makes the screaking sound every single time I press the brakes, no matter what temperature it is outside. The sound last about 3 or 4 seconds and it sounds like the ABS motor. You can feel the vibration on the brake pedal as it happens.

Very annoying as you can imagine.

Just swapped out mine with a used one today. Nice to drive without the thing screaming everytime you press the brakes. Shop labor was 100 bucks to do the swap and bleed.
