Default Warranty Coverage? (Brake fluid)

I just got a is350 at 29000 miles. The change brake fluid light came on at around 30000. Is this something the dealer should have changed before I got the car?

Normal wear and tear items are not covered by warranty.

Yes, why would they not have fully prepped the car for resale. Did you get it from a Lexus Dealership?

It is not covered by your warranty. If you bought it at a Lexus dealer and the car was certified pre-owned, you might be able to talk your salesman into getting you the brake fluid change for free, but don't count on it since you bought the car at 29k and the fluid change isn't required until 30k.

If it's a pre-owned certified Lexus from the dealer, they would have conducted all tests and checked "all" fluid levels. If it was low, they would have replaced it before sale. If you bought this from some mom and pop lot, then they probably didn't do anything.
From some of the experiences I've had, just talk to someone and explain your situation. They usually will be willing to help in a positive way. The guy I go through always goes above and beyond when trying to get things sorted out for me.

I got it from a Jag/Landrover dealership used almost 2 months ago. I dont think the fluid is low, but it was just the 30k miles maintenance warning came up. No warning light though.

I had thought the same thing, that they shouldve done the work before they sold the car They knew it was coming

it not like the brake going to fail just cause it the same break fluid sitting in it since day one dont worry. buy it yourself and flush it 10min job with a help of a friend to pump brake so you can bleed it. i drove my honda with the same fluid for 60K + miles and i see no harm

It will do harm since ABS lets in air into the brake line causing it to turn acidic. If your honda did not have abs it would not matter.

I've never heard of a brake fluid change reminder on the 2IS. What exactly does the warning say? Are you sure the fluid isn't just low?

By the way, if the fluid is low, you should check for pad wear, usually low fluid indicates worn out (or nearly worn out) pads.

No, it'd matter even then. Brake fluid takes on water over time (regardless of ABS). This lowers its boiling point.

This is why you should really change brake fluid every 2 years, regardless of mileage.

Many don't, and as long as they're never needing to make any really serious panic stops they'll probably never notice. If they ever do though, especially if they do after having already been a bit hard on the brakes, they might well have a serious problem with boiling brake fluid.
