Default coilover spring upgrade

Anyone upgrade their existing coilover spring to stronger and lighter spring? I was researching abit and came to hypercoil, they provide replacement springs for coils as long as you know the specs, i.e.. inner diameter of spring, rates you want, etc...

Apparently, they gaurentee the spring load to be within 2% but are actually producing within 1% variation.

I did not notice a weight difference when I held it. There is one less coil. Diameter of spring appears the same.

I was thinking about swapping mine out with Swift springs instead, but the downside is the price. Almost $400 for all 4 corners so I'm holding off that project until later.

Oh thanks for the additional info. This video#4 shows the obvious advantage of less coils (no coil binding) of course there plenty of numerous advantages of an upgraded coil ...also get to see the sways bar in action too.

btw, our vendor sells replacement coils by swift.

I'm also contemplating the same. $400 is alot for swift springs for me right now. Any other options out there? What about cutting the existing springs on the coilovers? Will it be that worse of a ride?

Cutting the existing springs will give you a higher spring rate. If you have damping adjustment, you can possibly stiffen up the damper and it'll be tolerable.

Just a little note to consider that when you change out to a heavier/softer spring rate, you must change your shock valving to work with the new springs. For the majority on a budget, changing spring rates within +/- 2kg/mm does not require re-valving your shocks. To the OP, Hyperco springs are probably one of the best springs money can buy. Those guys are heavily involved in racing and lots of higher end (i.e. F-Car, P-car, Spyker..) production car use their springs. From personal preference, I would go with Hyperco over Swift anyday since hyper can pretty much wind springs to your needs.

I too would take hyperco over swift had swift not been local to me. Most of the time they are cheaper than swift!

Now if only I could get Eibach to make me custom springs. Their track record seems even more impressive than hyperco's already amazing history! I've been bugging them about winding me up some coils.... i'm just waiting for their responses.

I will probably select the swift coils, pending a deal. I've originally selected 12/10 on the BC coilover body... should I change the rate for the swift?

My goal is performance, but that's not saying anything either. I don't have much experience with suspension other than the fact that I think my current springs are a little soft, but then again, it could be the dampening.

I've read that if the spring and shock are not balanced correctly, it could really mess up the performance.... like an unloaded truck on stiff spring. I shouldn't go stiffer for a solution. Since I haven't had any experience outside of my current setup, I can't really make a good decission.

I was hoping someone who daily/track their car can offer a suggestion. I guess, I talked myself into it... LOL, daily driver with track capability when needed (on surface road & public).

And with better springs... I may not need stiffer coils as, my guess is, it's has a more linear compression rate??? although the coils are already linear as oppose to progressive. I guess I mean better consistency than other coils.

or this...

If you go stiffer without having the dampers adjusted for, you're going to get bouncier ride. Outside of getting the shocks revalved, the only other option is to increase the damper setting on your coilovers. If you're going with some higher quality springs like swift or hyperco, you'll want to step up the spring rate. If you think your springs are too soft right now, the swift/hyperco will be softer just because they aren't stiffening up as compression increases. Why not shoot them an email?

Im in the same boat. I want somethiing that gives a good stiff ride perfect for performance but still able to be a daily driver. I was at first thinking megans because of price but now i hear they are too soft. Now im thinking of Bc Racings 14k/10k spring rate coilovers. Does anybody have these on their car and can attest for their performance?

I'm going to be on BC so, the safest is to go 12/10 since it's originally 10/8. I don't know much about revalving so I will stick with 12/10...

as for contacting them... I don't know much to be able to ask them anything. I did contact BC and they said that they are carrying swift as an optional upgrade. They haven't relayed that information to all their vendors yet.

If anyone wants a custom set of BCR coilovers we can get them for you at no extra cost (BCR springs). Depending on what you want we can tailor a set for you with the appropriate rates. Depending on the rates you choose the coilovers are usually valved for a 2k swing going up or down. Past that they would need to be revalved properly.

What is the best way to remove these spring? from the top or from the bottom, or reduce tension then remove from the top, or use a compressor to remove spring. I'd prefer to remove without compressor since I don't want to take it to the shop.

Now, if I mark the default location with somekind of marker, I should be able to load the spring back to original state (what's a better and more accurate marker than nail polish?).
