Default Lowering springs - spring rate comparison

Hi guys,

I'm looking for lowering springs. So I'm checking out what my options are.

(sorry, it's all in metric)

- Tein S Tech : AV -40mm, AR -20mm, taux AV 9.0kg, AR 11.0kg
- Tein H Tech : AV -23mm, AR -10mm, taux AV 6.1kg, AR 7.2kg
- Tanabe DF210 : AV -46mm, AR -33mm, taux AV 6.0kg, AR 5.6kg
- Tanabe NF210 : AV -38mm, AR -25mm, taux AV 5.6kg, AR 4.7kg
- Eibach Prokit : AV -25mm, AR -25mm, taux AV 8.9kg, AR 6.8kg

After the looking at the numbers, 3 questions came up:
- Why are the Teins have higher spring rates in the rear compared to the front? (I would think having harder springs in the front would make sense, as there is more weight)
- Are the Tein S Techs really stiff compared to stock springs?
- Aren't the Tanabe's overly soft compared to the others?

Edit: accidently put some French in the thread... AV = front, AR = rear

I never liked tein and their design. Higher spring rates in the rear are generally reserved for FWD cars where you want minimal weight transfer to the rear end. Stiffer rear springs will also reduce understeer, but I just think Tein overdid it with their spring rates.

Tanabe springs (NF210) are pretty soft/comfortable when they were installed in a friend's car. They were about as soft as my previous L-tuned/Eibach springs. Never rode on the DF210 so I can't tell you how they ride.

Thanks GSteg, that makes sense!

Not sure why Tein went with those spring rates...

Anyway let me sum it up for you, I want:
- a better stance (4x4 stock look is horrible)
- less roll and float
- not too harsh a ride

The Tanabe's and the Tein H Tech are a no-go as they are only available in the US, so I'm looking at approx. $100 in shipping and 25% of duties on the total amount (and that includes shipping!).

So that significantly reduces my options...

For now I'm thinking about getting the Tein S Tech unless you guys persuade me not to.

I've looked at other springs available here:
- Vogtland: 1" drop front & rear, no one here has 'em and the drop is minimal IMO
- H&R: 1.2" drop front & rear, seems to be linear springs (that's what the TüV certificate says), not progressive, springs and some say the ride is harsh

So between the Tein S Techs and the H&R's, which would be the better spring to go with?

I have df210 and they ride pretty good. Soft enough to not notice that they are aftermarket springs...
