Angry Dealership Dustless Brake Pad TSIB

i know there is a TSIB for 07 is 25's and i am currently still under warranty (45k right now)..i just called the dealership in my area and the service tech said they can only swap out the pads if my current ones have 50% or more remaining. i took it to a les schwab down the street and they said i have 35-40% remaining. is there anyway i can get around this or mention another issue in order for the dealership to do it anyway??

The dealer doesn't want you doing this to get a free brake pad replacement--i.e., normal wear and tear. You can try to sweet talk them--tell them you didn't know about the low dust pads until recently, or else you definitely would have replaced them earlier. Or, if the low dust pads cost more, you can offer to pay what the OEM pads would have cost, and have the dealer make up the difference.

print out the TSB and ask them to show you where it says that they'll replace it only if there's 50% pad left.

Even if you have to pay for the low dust front pads, it's worth it.

Just make sure the pad part numbers are same as attached.

We don't call them stealers for nothing. Mine had less than 30% when I got it done. Dealer protested so I showed them the TSIB. I don't get it...the dealers get paid from corporate anyway

The answer to that is that the TSB references the warranty:

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in
effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s
in-service date.
Your warranty excludes normal wear and tear items. If the brake pads are close to worn, the TSB doesn't apply, just like the warranty wouldn't apply to a replacement due to normal wear and tear. That's why I think it's best to sweet talk them, rather than to try and bully them.

I had the excessive brake dust issue and they put the new brake pads on, no questions asked. I did mention the TSB just to let them know. Shortly after the new brake pads were installed my brakes started squeaking. I then took it in for the pedal recall and told them about this and they buffed my pads and rotors free of charge. No more squeaking.

I am reading that the dust free ones are much harder , thus not as good stopping power and will eat your rotors up quicker.

They are not correct (as often is the case with dealership service departments unfortunately). Many of us have the revised pads with no decrease in braking performance. Get it done.

No reports of such eating. I've had them for a year, same rotors.
