Default Ls400 vs tt brakes

Ok so thinking of a brake upgrade for the drift box. What's the pros and cons of each system? I'm getting that the ls400 calipers are lighter and the supra tt system uses bigger rotors. And o think the tt calipers are generally more expensive.

As you said, LS calipers are lighter. I have noticed that TT rotors have more center ventilation volume (the hollow space is thicker). So, I would attribute the better brake fade resistance people speak of to that. Also, the LS400 rotors are a couple pounds heavier, but the TT rotors are of a slightly larger diameter. So, the mass moment of inertia is probably about equal between them. Without calculation, I wouldn't be so quick to give the TT's the advantage there as most people do. Not a lot of people seem to take rotational characteristics into proper perspective. I think TT calipers are a couple off mm thicker at the most, but they sit approx 0.3" (I think) further from the hub, so they will have slightly better concave wheel clearance.

There's a ton of info on these two systems on CL if you search, some with the exact stoppage power numbers. But I dont THINK theres a single thread comparing the two? So this may be a good idea..

From what I know:
The TT breaks DO have more stopping power than the LS breaks. In fact, if I'm correct, the TT breaks had the best stopping preformance of any production vehicle from the time they were produced until some Porshe beat them in '04? They are a lot more expensive however, and a lot heavier. Many people go the LS route because how close in preformace they are to eachother, vs price difference. At the same time the TT's do have better aftermarket rotor support that the LS breaks. I guess it really depends on budget..

think of it like this..

TT = WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more pad choices..

LS400 = Limited pad choices...

save a few lbs n have crap pads?? or add a few lbs and be able to run track pads or performance pads? up to you.

edit: btw this topic has been ran discussed SOOOOOOO many times in the 2GS forum and SC3/4 forum... run a search

just some food for thought for the less experienced

say a small rotor is like a 3/8th ratchet and big rotors are like a breaker bar.

having a further distance gives you much more leverage right?

the same thing applies for stopping power.

cliff notes: tt brakes ftw

decision is really simple, a question of budget:
LS400 calipers/rotors...inexpensive
TT calipers/rotors........expensive

Really it comes down to budget with the TT being more expensive, IMO.

i've had LS4 brakes and Supra TT brakes.

I really did feel a difference between the two. The Supra TT ones did seem to provide a bigger bite. And like Vwynn said, much more pad choices with the Supra TT setup.

What's the story on clearance? Can stock wheels clear either caliper?

Stock wheels do not fit unless you add some spacers. Many who do the LS or TT upgrade switch over to TT wheels, which looks decent on the SC.
