let me clarify my post and say that i should have added "popular" in front of the term "upper-echelon offerings" so as to limit the discussion to the higher end of the price spectrum of popular coilovers selections.
i suppose the term "upper-echelon offerings" used in an absolute sense within the context of this discussion is a misnomer.

The HKS IMO would be too soft for the track at 5/5 spring rates. Maybe they would be to floaty for the track. Mine are 10/8 and they are IMO a perfect balance for track/street use.
However, alot depends on the tires, you dont do much with a stiff suspension and crappy tires. the tires will give out before the suspension does its job.

and the floating at the track is not the spring its the rebound of the shock. V3s with there independently adjustable compression and rebound let you set that. They have the spring rates right when it comes to that. you get what you pay for. IMO
