Default Lowering springs and stock shocks ?

I have a 95 sc300 and I want to lower it a little, like and inch or so. Can I get lowering springs and use them with the stock struts ? I'm reaching the end of my budget and don't want to replace the struts if I don't have to as they are still good.

Yes, quite a few kits are out there that will give you roughly an inch or so drop on stock struts. If you could break your budget a little bit; it would be nice to have new springs and struts all in one go, instead of replacing a blown one down the road.

Are the stock struts more likely to blow with lowered springs ? I thought the bump stops would still catch the wheel before it went to a compression deep enough to damage the strut.

Bump stops are designed to absorb major shock and to keep the assembly from over compressing, not intended for repeated use.

As most aftermarket struts are designed to replace their OEM counter parts, I would assume valving would vary from the manufacturers. Any time you install lowering springs on a strut you will effect its shock travel range; therefore, lowering springs will have the strut range near the bottom of the tube instead of the middle, where it's designed to work. I've heard some people having issues with strut life as well as others that don't.

i've had espelir springs with stock struts for 3 years with no issues, but not to say your struts arent weaker then mine, every car is different. Some cars will go 50k miles on springs with stock struts and some cars will go 150k miles with no problems. It all depends on how you drive, where you drive and so on, good luck to whatever you do after all it makes sence to save and get some coilovers, i didnt think so either but look at me now selling the espilers and buying coilovers. If you plan on keeping the car its one of those "i told you so " episodes, i wish i woul of bought coilovers 3 years ago.

The lowering springs will be fine for me, its a daily driver and I'm not trying to lay frame or anything I just want to get the stance better. Besides, if I do decide to go super low I'll probably bag it. The roads on the way to work are crap, if I have to slow down to 5 mph for every obstacle on the way I'll never get there so nonadjustable super low is out.

This might not be the thread for it but just wondering if Brian gets the struts, is there a chance of him bottoming out if the drop is 1in-2in on stock struts?

Jw 'cause I'm on the same boat tryna get springs on a tight budget..

Thank you in advance.
