Default Is something wrong with my brakes?

Today, I noticed that my brakes weren't the same as usual. I normally press the brake pedal down about half way when I start my car. When I pressed the pedal today, it wouldn't go down. It just went down enough for the Start Engine button light to turn green after pressing very hard. Once the car started, the pedal would then sink all the way down from me pressing it. What could be up with it?

If you shut off the car and then you pump the break pedal a few times then it becomes very hard. Once you start the car again everything goes back to normal.

Yeah, that does happen but the pedal is hard even without pumping it or anything. Once the car turns off, the pedal becomes hard itself.

chi123 did you ever get this resolved or figure out what the problem is? I'm currently experiencing the same thing and can't find a whole lot about it on the boards.

This actually happened to me this morning, but I think it was because I installed the sport pedals last night so I was messing with the brake. Otherwise my brake is soft when I start my car.

Also, in my friend's IS the brake was hard when the battery was about dead.

It shouldn't be a battery problem for me (I hope) I just changed mine to a Yellow Top from Auto Zone maybe 3 months ago. But it's happened to me 3 times today without me messing with the brakes before I get out of the car. I mean the car starts no problem its just that my brakes are so stiff when I try to start my car.

This happens to me when I go on vacation for a week. When I get back the brake pedal is really stiff, but it clears up and works normally once the engine starts again.

The vacuum is bleeding down in your brake booster causing the pedal to feel hard. As soon as the engine starts and recharges the vacuum in the booster, the brakes feel normal. There's a checkvalve in the line to prevent bleed down. It might not be working well and doing what it should be doing.
