Default $2500 for F-Sport spring!?

Just got a quote from Lexus - $358 per...PER...spring, $950 to install (119/hr) plus tax. im looking at around 2500. Are they joking me? $2500 to drop a leased is250 1"...i dont think so...

i know i could go to sewells for $300 w/ tax for a set. but installing through lexus to keep my warranty kind of kills the deal.

An independent shop should charge way less than that.

would i still keep my warranty if an ind. place installed them?

also - what are the chances of getting away with buying springs, having local place install, selling OEM springs, and then returning the leased car in almost 3 years from now?

Sounds like they priced you F-Sport Package factory springs. Even then it sounds high. They do not sell the F-Sport lowering springs individually IIRC. Maybe they priced you springs and shocks?

Labour for this is only 4.4h (in Canada at least).

As for getting them installed, buy them from Sewell then take them to your dealer for the install.

Jeff

i will have to give this some thought...$300 sewell + $950 dealer install. thats exactly 3.5 lease payments...or a $40 premium on my monthly payments for the remaining months i have the car.

then again, i could sell the OEM springs, since i could return the car with the F-Sports...nevermind...$50 for OEM spring sale...**** this

here is a silly thought....WHY would u mod a leased car?

for that matter why do people even lease cars anymore? you already throwing away money in the lease (unless your leasing to own) why would you throw it away in mods?

$2500... lol. my dealership actually only wanted about 800 for the f-sport shocks and springs installed but even that was too much for me. I ended up doing it at a local shop for less than 3 hours.

i have many more reasons to lease than buy...but thats not here nor there.

a car is a depreciating asset. either way you go about it, you are losing money. buying, financing, leasing. its not like you are building equity by choosing to puchase the car - its not a home. the question is what you are willing to pay for the time you have the car.

example: you have a $450/mo budget...

a) if you want speed - you get an IS350 for 450/mo @ 36 months. thats $16,200 spent.

b) you want looks - you get an IS250 for 350/mo @ 36 months and mod it. thats $12,600. price difference from the 350 is $3,600, which could be spent on modding.

modding a leased car is not much different than checking off option boxes from the factory...except you are paying for the aftermarket item upfront, and not financing. modding a car you own doesnt help the resale value either. it's all a matter of what you are willing to pay for your satisfaction. i am willing to spend the $$ to mod a lease for my own personal satisfaction. is it throwing away money? sure. but so is getting a lexus to drive me from point A to B, when i could get a Kia instead.

My local dealer tried to tell me the same thing ($300 per spring + $800 install). I told them that I thought it was $300 for the set and they told me I had wrong info. So, I ordered the set from Sewell for $220 and had a local shop install them for $200. You still retain the warranty on the parts for 12 months from the date you order them, regardless of where you have them installed.

How is it different than modding anything else? You get to enjoy whatever you do for the length of time you have the car.
