Default Shocks, Springs, and bushings

Okay guys here is a totally newbie type question and please take it easy on me, I did a search and am still confused - suspension is not my thing.

In a few weeks I am going to replace my shocks and springs(brakes too). I just want the car to feel stock - comfort is more important to me than handling, so I plan on using OEM parts.

I decided to look around here and see if there is anything else that would make sense to do at the same time and kept hearing about bushings.

If I recall from my old Firebird days - bushings have something to do with how tight the steering feels - is this accurate? Does it effect comfort as well?

Any help appreciated guys - just trying to learn something.
Thanks,
Ryan

Bushings are those red things in this pic:
Your stock bushings are made of rubber, and when they wear, there is more "play" in the suspension, so if yours are worn, replacing them will make your car feel "tighter".

If you want to get even tighter you can use polyurethane bushings, but then your car gets a bit tighter (and rougher) than stock.

Thanks Perry,

I actually did read that thread, but it doesn't really go into the details of what the bushings do. Do they make the steering feel tighter or is the ride stiffer in general? I'm just trying to understand the benefit to replacing these.

I was also asking a general question - if I am having my shocks replaced, is there anything else I should have done at the same time, especially if it makes the labor cheaper.

Thanks,
Ryan
