Default When to replace Shim kit?

Well I'm changing brake pads on my supra TT calipers and I'm wondering if I should replace the shim kit, normally I would just buy replacement stuff but it cost 55$ just from front shims. I'm wondering if it's necessary to get new shims and how do you tell when they need to be replaced?

Thanks!

only time when shims need to be replaced is when their rusted and falling apart or have fallen off the car completely. I wouldn't get any if yours are still in good shape

I replaced mine when my brakes were making "clapping" noises.
