Default Anyone install their springs themselves?

Like the title says, have any of you guys installed you own lowering springs? If so please do describe how the task went and if any special tools are needed.

Ive done shocks/springs on my past two cars (supra and IS300) and am putting coilovers on myself in a few weeks. Its not hard to do, its just time consuming. I think the hardest thing about putting springs on is the swapping the springs to the old shocks or installing them on the new ones. Most likely you will need a spring compressor and its a pain in the *** and also a little dangerous. You can rent them from autozone for free. Coilovers are easier since you dont need the spring compressor. You will definitely need jackstands to keep the car up in the air safely for a few hours. But besides that, if you've got a saturday to hang out in the garage for a few hours, it shouldnt be a problem. Just take your time and have some beer ready for when you're done.

Hit all of the bolts with some PB Blaster the night before and let them soak.

DYI Guide to installing the springs. From what I've read it takes 4.5-5 hours and isn't that hard. Need a spring compressor and do a "bushing reset".

Sometimes you can find a club member near by to install cheap.

I did mines on coilovers. After the car was on stands, it took me 2 hours total doing it solo. So 4 hours or so would be normal for spings/struts.

Just make sure you align the top hats properly or you'll be very irritated....

The rear was actually easier than the front for me. Just remove end link, remove bolt holding the strut, remove the bolt holding the arm to the hub, and then loosen that one bolt towards the center of the car so that it can swing. Bam it's out after removing the 3 nuts on the top and the two inside of the upper fender well

You pay a deposit, ~$30-40, but you get it back when you return them.

no springs compressor needed when I changed my friend and my IS350 to f-sport springs and shocks it a lot quicker to install without the springs compressor because aftermarket spring is shorter than original one, when we put the springs on the shocks and put the top pillow mount and my friend just push down from the top mount and I put the nut on to tight them, it save you alot of time to compress the springs

Thanks for the help guys! A friend and I did the install last night and i'm very pleased with the look! The ride is definitely a bit harsher, but I think i'll get used to it. The only thing is the AFS sensor is on and i'm not sure what exactly to adjust

the height sensor by the passenger side rear wheel.

Do a search or look in the FAQ, it's been covered several times.

I let that stupid height sensor work its way upside down when I was doing my swaybar. I just had to adjust it back up. No big deal.

(I had to remove the bracket because i'm 6'8" with monster hands :P)

Pictures of how it should look are right at the end of the lowering DYI where it says "make sure you check your AFS sensor" :P

Default bad news

I took my car to get aligned just now and the mechanic said I'd be wasting my money if I let him align it because you can only adjust toe. He told me I had to buy caster camber plates. Can someone please help me asap
