Default rear struts blown

The shop says my rear struts are blown and it will cost $700 to replace. Is there a cheaper solution? What parts do I need to buy? How much should I pay for installation?

Step 1: Find a shop that knows your car doesn't have struts, it has shocks

Seriously though- I assume you're out of warranty?

From here, assuming they are right, it'll depend on what you want to do... replacement shocks are $186-196 each from Sewell depending if you have the sport suspension or regular... so that's about $400 in parts... $300 sure seems high for labor to me to replace 2 shocks.

Then you might want to decide if you want to go with stock replacements or if you want to look at aftermarket suspension parts... (which won't be cheaper, since you'll want to replace all 4, and probably the coils too, but might be "better" depending on your goals).

Solution, purchase these instead and install yourself. If you don't have the tools...then buy them.

How many hours of install would it take?

If you have the know-how and the right tools...2-3hrs for all four. It's not hard.

Are the IS250 shocks easier to replace than typical struts?

If you want something better than factory handling and with adjustments then the Megan EZs would be a good choice. Easy to install because you don't need to re-use stock parts.

Shoot me a PM if you'd like a good deal on a set

you can upgrade your suspension with that price. struts are spring and shock as one assembly. so if you have a strut, it is very easy to install (just bolt on). if you are just replacing the shock, you will need a spring compressor to disassemble the strut

Dave, what part of cali are you from? if you're in southern cali then Tommy(musicbox 626-823-2853) can install them for you for $150. If you're not then installation SHOULD cost you around $150-200. Any more is a ripe.

I just ordered 2 shocks for the rear on Sewell:
ABSORBER ASSY, SHOCK, REAR LH & RH MARK 48530-53120,TIRE & DISC WHEEL-225/40R18+255/40R18,SUMMER TIRE,ALU

Are these just shocks or are they the strut (spring and shock assembly)?
How many hours do they take to install? How much should I pay?

Also, what city is Tommy located in?

Tommy @ Musicbox
948 Durfee ave#C
South El Monte, 91733

The price will confirm what you got. How much did you pay? If its $1XX each then its just the shock. Labor cost I already commented on. As for install time it took him about half hour per pair.

I just logged onto Sewell and its kinda confusing because they use the word Assembly on everything. I can't say for sure but I think its just the absorber.

Again, you car does not have struts

struts are not the same thing as shocks and springs in the same box.

Ignorant folks interchange the terms, but they're really different things used on different types of suspensions. The 2IS suspension does not have and does not use struts.

From the description of the part you gave it sounds like you ordered the rear shocks for the non-sport suspension
