Default New steering column

Hey guys been having a problem with my steering wheel, whenever I take a turn the steering wheel doesn't straighten out, also whenever I turn to the left theres a creaking noise like a rusty door that needs to be oiled. I already got a alignment but didn't fix it. The mechanic said it was $900 - 1k since the whole steering column needs to be replaced. Do you think that is too much?

your mechanic is taking you to the bank. thats insane. i dont think its that hard to do. i have changed colums on MR2's and Celica's and its not hard at all.

get some friends and a 12 pack of bud. you'll be done in no time.

Could just be the steering rack bushings. Mine were shot and anytime I would take a turn, the steering wheel would be stuck in the 10 o'clock position or the 3 o'clock position, and if I would turn the wheel with the engine off, I could hear the steering rack sliding in the bushings, making an odd noise. You can check your rack by having a buddy sit in the car and turn the steering wheel while you are looking at the steering rack, if you can see it physically move back and forth, you just need new steering rack bushings. Hopefully that is the problem, as it is a super easy and cheap fix.

Thanks,
Rick
