I just did this today. The rotor will get seized to the hub, so I used some PB blaster and hit it over and over and over and over with a rubber mallet until I got some play. I even kicked it and cursed at it a little. After about twenty or so minutes, I was able to get it off. I wish I would have seen this thread first.

Default What size/thread are the little bolts to remove the rotor?

You took too many steps, all you need to do is remove the brake calipers then the rotors will come off.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about:

You're supposed to use the bolts that hold the calipers to the brackets, which is 14mm. Manufacturers really design it like that because they really expect the rotor to seize with the hub in time. But, 70% of the time, people just forget to remove the car from ebrake.

To the OP, if you really wanna find out the size of the axle nut, it's 32mm.

It really looks like the axle nut has to come off before the rotor will come off...........am I missing something??

you'll see when you get it off
the "ring" around the axle nut is just caked with rust
it's actually a separate piece from the rotor

If you haven't gotten these off by now and you still don't believe everyone who's replied here, then I think the only thing left you're missing is a drive to an auto shop to have a mechanic do the job for you.

I got them off. I'm just out of the country and haven't posted. The hub nut definitely doesn't need to come off. One side just took a little beating with a rubber mallet, the drivers side took all my patience and a ball peen hammer. I imagine most people do forget to let off the ebrake, but I did not. I decided to change the lines while I was in there and that is where I'm stuck. I can't seem to break the lines free by myself. I have to get a buddy to help me. I am just bending the hard lines and making zero progress unscrewing the soft lines. Excellent info about the caliper bolts being the correct size to pull the rotor. This has turned into a very informative thread from a simple mistake on my part. Win.

Just a hint invest in line wrenches, unless you already destroyed the face of the lines. Then get nice vise grips and call it a day.

FWIW, Line wrenches made the job soooooo easy. I bought 2 sets JIC I need to hold and twist the same size fittings. For others, that is not necessary for this job. 1 set of metrics will do the trick. Sadly, I cant remember the sizes. I finished the job a while back. Now Im trying to fit my widebody.... and finish gutting the car.

Mine were rusted on so bad (car came from East coast and rotors had been on for years) I couldn't get them off with a srew or rubber mallet so I took it to a shop and they had to use a sledge hammer...tap..rotate...tap.. rotate..chunks of rust fell onto the ground.

Default RX 350 front brake rotors: Canada vs Japan

Becareful when replacing the front rotors. On a 2008 RX 350 the hub size differs by .01" depending on whether it was assembled in Canada or Japan. After market prices are roughly $60 for the Japan version and $120 for the Canadian. Some manufacturers just build the larger size and say it's OK to use on either car. Maybe, but maybe not!
