For the record, I've had genuine crossdrilled Brembo rotors spider up on me. The ones that are allegedly "cast" with the holes to prevent cracking (I don't think its true)

Centric blanks at ~$100 for a complete set of 4 have yet to fail me.

I've heard quite a few compliments on those.

But, I really like the Premium Slotted rotors that R1 offers, cause they electro-coat it, to prevent rust(hopefully) cause that's about the only thing I hate about disc brakes.

Default Problem with LS400 BBK install

I'm in the process of installing my 95+ LS400 bbk into my 1992 SC300 and am having some problems mounting the caliper to the mounting bracket.

I was told that I could use the SC300 caliper mounting bolts if I used washers. I've tried it a couple of ways so far.

First, with about 3/8" worth of washers on the bolt head side of it. That caused the caliper to be cocked enough that the rotor was then pulled inwards on that side.

Then I tried the same washers on the inside between the SC mounting point and the LS400 caliper. This time it was closer, but I still have rub between the rotor and the caliper when I turn the rotor.

Did anyone else experience this during their install?

Ok, looks like I got it now.

I went with 2 flat washers between the caliper and the mounting bracket that total about 3/16" in thickness, plus one between the bolt head and the mounting bracket. That seems to be working perfectly with just the right amount of float and no contact between the caliper and rotor when I rotate the rotor.

I did have one other issue installing the passenger side caliper. It wouldn't quite line up with the top hole after bolting up the bottom hole on the bracket. No matter which order I tried it in, it wouldn't quite line up. I ended up taking an angle grinder to the corner of the caliper right next to the top mounting hole and grinding away maybe 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch of metal. After that it lined right up and bolted in with no problem.

So all in all, this was not exactly a quick bolt on project for me, but close enough if you are patient and willing to try stuff to make it fit.

I didn't use any washers on mine, I just used the bolts that came with the ls calipers. And as for it not lining up, one side did not line up properly after I put the top bolt in. so I kind of raised the caliper up with the to bolt in so its like a hinge and I slammed it down back in place and after like 3 tries it lined up.

Do you guys actually have the calipers powdercoated? Will it damage anything internally when doing this? Or just use caliper paint?

just a FYI you're using the wrong lugs with those infinity rims, someone correct me if im wrong but you need to use ball seat lugs instead of the cone seat ones you have on right now. just a safety issue don't want your wheels flying off.

If I remember correctly, Nissan/Infiniti do use the conical seat lugs (acorn) and not the spherical like the Germans.

Looks good man, any full side shots of the car?

BTW - I have a set of "cheap Ebay" cross drilled and slotted rotors on my Supra, ive done several passes in it and hard braking from 120+ and theres no cracking, no warping, no fade, NOTHING.
