Default Brakes service - what do I need?

I need to change my brake pads as they are almost done. I am wondering what do i need in order to change them ?

Should I go with OEM or aftermarket pads? do I need to change the rotor as well ? what about shim kits and fit kits?

Thank you everyone for your help!

Are you doing them yourself or having a shop do them for you?

As far as parts, the OEM brake pads are more then enough and with the CL discount off Sewell, they aren't too expensive either. If your replacing the front brake pads, make sure you choose the "low dust" brake pads before buying. The regular pads dust like crazy! Shim kit and fit kits depend, i know most people don't seem to change out the fit kit, but some people change out the shims. Sometimes they get damaged during the removal/install too...and i don't believe OEM pads come with shims so you'll have to order them separately. Most aftermarket pads however do come with shims in the box already, but i don't really see too many people on CL switching to aftermarket brake pads. Rotors only need to be changed if they are warped or something else is wrong with them.

Yeah, unless there's something wrong with em no reason to replace the rotors.... assuming your braking is smooth and working correctly now and you simply have low pads just get new low-dust OEM pads from Sewell and call it a day.

Thank you everyone for your help!!

I'm looking at sewell's website right now and there doesn't seem to be a option for Low dust pads for 2009 Lexus IS250... are the ones available already low dust?

I think maybe since 2009 they stopped using the high brake dust pads?
I am planning to call dealer to get the TSIB done if they can still do it, I have 09 too

What if the rotors are more than 1cm deep? I didn't know they could wear down that fast, considering that they were only replaced about 40k miles ago (most of them being highway). Should they be replaced?

I have an 09 with OEM pads and they don't dust much. I think we have the new pads.

what's the easiest way to ensure that rotors are fine? I've ordered both Centric pads and rotors but if my OEM rotors are fine, I'll just sit on the rotors for a while
