Default LCA bolt

So we were putting in coilovers in a 250 awd and we ran into a problem in the rear:

the LCA bolt that goes through the shock won't come out. In fact, all it does is move slightly and it's stuck. We've tried using airtools to bang this out, hammered it, submerged it in kroil and it just won't budge.

Anyone else have this issue? I ran into the same problem in my own car with the same bolt before and we resorted to cutting it and replacing it.

Thanks!

Never had an issues. Are you trying to take it out first or last? I've alway taking it out first then the bolt that hold it to the hub.

We're taking it out first. We then took off the sway bar bolt out too (which made little difference).

I recall when I changed my springs, I didn't need to touch the hub bolt nor the chassis bolt. I simply loosened the sway bar bolt and banged out the shock bolt and jounced it a bit to get them out. Then on the other side of my car, it was frozen in.

We submerged it in kroil and we're going to try it again tomorrow but I was hoping to see if anyone else had this issue and maybe a solution

Well there still pressure on the lca without taking the one on the hub out. It making it harder the way your doing it. I never had to struggle on both my IS I did. Plus I never had to mess with the sway bar. Make sure you jack the lca so you can get the bolts out.

Well in the end I had to use a combination of a acetylene torch, air chisel, and an air hammer to get it out...

yeah mine was jammed pretty good, first attempt with loctite freeze and release, didnt work despite letting it sit overnight

good luck....

Mine had the same problem in the rear driver side. The LCA bolt would break loose but the rubber piece prevented it from turning. Air tools didn't help nor did any penetrating fluid. Luckily, I was just installing springs so I was able to get the springs in with the strut on the car. You might have to destroy the bushing in the shock to get it out, I have no idea how except for a shop to do it.

That's weird I didn't have a problem with the rear the front is what gave me a problem. The passenger side shock was stuck right on the lca and I had to removed the sway linkage to get pressure off the lac and pushed it down to set the shock free. You should be able to hammer out the bolt, that's really weird hope you get that bolt off and get the shock off. Good luck!

Northern cars with all that rust...boo! The only thing I can recommend to removing the entire LCA with the shock assembly still attached.

I had the same problem and ended up using a floor jack to put some load on the arm, then pulled the bolt out with my fingers. Try pumping the floor jack handle little by little and pull on the bolt.

Another good trick to use with Kroil oil is this - once you apply it, put a drop or two of mineral spirits to help it penetrate better.
The last project I had (pins, not bolt threads) took 3 days of soaking for anything to budge...
