Lack of stability and weak brakes on GS430

I'm not going to read the whole thread either, but I can tell you I disagree. I know that a year or two ago Motor Trend tested the GS430 and they said it braked like you hit quick sand, as quick as a 'vette.
I have driven many cars in my days, and the GS is at the top for a large 4 door sedan. If your brakes are poor, something is wrong with your car.

I just came out of a 996, and I think the GS brakes are great. The only problem with my 1 week old GS4 is that it pulls to the left on the freeway- hopefully the dealer can realign at the first service, and I'll probably push them to replace the front tires- why not? Also, it's white-knuckle time at 90+. The Porsche was smooth as glass at 164 but driving around was hard on the kidneys. All things considered, I'm completely satisfied with the swap.

According to Road and Track, their GS400 stoped from 60-0 in 119 feet. That's WAY faster than a vette, look up the stoping distances for 911 turbo and Diablo... yeah the ones with huge 14" Brambo rotors and you will see that the GS brakes are POWERFUL, actually it is more "well designed" than powerful.

Have you looked at the specs for braking across all the periodicals?

There is no secret to great brakes. It is simply a function of pad compound, size, torque/piston pressure, tires and a bit of brake balance. The cheapest and quickest way to improve any car's brakes for street driving is a better pad. For track driving or real hard back road stuff the big brake kits will handle heat way better than stock ones. A four or five foot difference in stopping distances between two cars can be overcome with a quick pad swap.
The GS does outbrake a 540i in those tests but I do know that a 540i can handle some track work with stock brakes so maybe the pads are just a little harder--which won't give you as good a stopping distance when a little cold. The only GS I ever saw at a racetrack had Brembos so I have no opinion there.
