Default BC racing rear clunking noise

Hello all,

I have a 2009 RWD IS250 and I have been getting loud clunking noise from the rear suspension when going over bumps. The bump sounds like metal slapping against each other. I took it to a shop and they say it could be the shocks, but trying to get a warranty from BC racing has been slow so I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue before and how you fixed it?

Could it be my rear is too low and the coils are slapping against each other over bumps causing the noise?

Thanks in advance for the input.

This issue has been long complained from BC users. Clunk usually happens in the rear.

Search and you will find, lots of them

I actually had the car checked out for loose parts already by a shop... all seems to be tight

i was going to raise the car up a bit to see if its the coil slapping but judging from 600rr05's post thats not the case... i hope BC racing is a little more speedy with their warranty process

Don't have BC but thought my clunking noise was something suspension related.
Turns out that my exhaust (midpipe/axle area) was hitting a cross bar underneath it.

How did you set preload, or how much preload? I set my BCRs at neutral + 1 full turn. I think the whole assembly has settled, so I need to reset the preload again. Perhaps the sound is the spring rattling around on the expansion stroke of the shock? That's what I think I get some times going over bumps.

Just thought of this...I wonder if the majority of these phantom noises come from those with the rubber top hat mounts. I opted for the pillow-ball mount, and have not had a thing wrong with these coilovers at all.

I was debating weather to get bc racing or fsport shocks later on.. after hearing all the noise issues about it. I think I'm gonna go with the fsport now

Mong they are still great coilovers. I also got a e-mail back today from BC here is what they said im gonna try it hopefully tonight and see if it works
Ususally that noise comes from a loose top nut(under the adjustment ****).
This video will demonstrate to you the proper way to ensure that nut is tightened and remove one possibility.

^^ I've tried that to readjust the preload... it didn't work at all...I also tighten the bolts and everything even took it to a shop to have them have a crack at it ...

I finally got BCR to send me replacements shocks for my rear... they said they sent it out 3 week ago and i still have not received the replacements yet.. i sent them an email on monday asking where it is and no reply still.

I am seriously regretting this purchase.. shouldn't have cheape out.

That sucks I re adjusted my pre load and all the noises went away. Sucks to hear you haven't gotten the replacements give them a call instead of emails
