Replacing front and rear struts HELP
I need on what kind of struts I should use on replacing my rear/front struts and if anyone is from the Houston area that could recommend a good mechanic for this specific task. Also my car is stock but I do have a two ten inch subs and box in the back that add extra weight if that makes a difference on the load that is placed on the struts, remember I am a newbie to the forum and not a car genius. thank you

search this sub-forum for KYB, bilstein HD, Bilstein sport, and it will pull up old threads where you can review.
If you want things to really stay the same, then get OEM toyota part.
if you want things to stay the same but don't want to overpay just for piece of mind, then just choose kyb.
If you want something different (usually stiffer) then search up those other shocks here and you'll find the reviews. If you want to really change up your suspension, now is the time to think if you want to spend a lot more on a bigger project.
I personally am happy with bilstein HD.
As far as a mechanic,
search or post to the regional subforum to see if there are any recommdations,
If nothing come sup,
Use yelp around your area and see what is around. This is suspension work, so don't necessarily want to pick a general mechanic (which usually knows most about engines). You want to be sure the shop that you choose does complete suspension work.
Otherwise your general mechanic is just going to do the work, then drive around the corner to subcontract the alignment work to his partnered ship. Might as well just deal directly with the right specialists.
How do you find those? Well, one way is to see that the place does alignments well and have invested in modern alignment machines (like if they promote they do laser alignment, and if they also promote the quality of their tire balancer like they have optional roadforce balancing and a dsp-9000 that's a good sign).
So if they good yelp reviews for alignment or tirebalancing, they'll probably do this suspension job well. Price though you have to look closely at the reviews and see if they will be giving you a fair price or you have to pay a premium for this extra capability that you may not need.
