that is the grease fitting. there is a small screw on the side of the ball joint that you remove and then screw on the fitting. you need to get a grease gun and apply grease into the ball joint. you can get another fitting from any auto parts store along with the grease gun.

Chances are that your balljoints weren't greased as you received them (MOOG aren't for instance and require that you grease them during installation).

Hopefully you did not drive far on dry balljoints!

My Moog ball joints had grease in them already when I installed. (About a month ago) Did more need to be added?

If it comes with a grease zerk I would leave it on and grease periodically

MOOG balljoints come dry, include zerk fittings that you have to screw in, and grease before first use.

It's hard to say if you damaged them by driving on them dry. I would grease them and give it a whirl. If everything looks/feels normal, forget about it and go on with your life.

qwerty, I am not following you.

First you say that you threw away the zerk and never greased. Then you ask if you need new balljoints if you see grease coming out. Then you say the zerks (screws?) are there. Are you on some kind of hallucinogens?

What type of grease would need to be added?

The moog brand or at least the one I got has a screw on the ball joint. I learned you are supposed to take it off and screw the zerk fitting on then grease them. I was told moog ball joints may come with a little bit of grease but still need to be greased. I looked under and seen a little grease outside of the ball joint and need to know if they are damaged now and need to be replaced.

I think regardless of what you see, how does the car behave? Any unusual noises?

If everything appears fine, install the zerks, hit them with a grease gone and don't worry about it.
