Default suspension - real talk

Ok guys maybe my expectations are too high for this. I would love to lower the car a bit, you know get rid of the fender gap and whatnot. Here is the problem, it seems several people who have BCR, and the Megan have complained of noises. This isnt my daily but when I drive it I dont want to hear noises like some sh!it is falling apart. Is this just a toss up? I mean how many people have done the installation correctly and still get noises? I have a RWD btw. I know the AWD is a different animal.

I dont want any hella poke or static flush. I dont want to shave fenders, or relocate a fender tab. I understand that I will have to go with a high offset rim as well. I'm ok with that.

Anybody else in the same boat? eh..maybe I'm just getting old.

TL;DR - I'm old.

I think you can do it just fine. I can't promise you no noise but I say do it. You have the idea how you want the ride with high offsets, so that's fine.

i read this post, and i agree with you. you're not getting old; it's just getting what you want without any compromises. after all, this is clublexus, not clubhonda.

most coilover offerings create some type of excess/unwanted noise, one way or another. most of it stems from using aluminum pillow ball upper mounts vs. reusing the oem rubber top hats. the aluminum pillow ball upper mounts transfer a lot of the road noise and vibration into the chassis, and in spirited driving situations, you can even hear the chassis groan and creak from the excessive forces that's causing the chassis to flex ever so slightly due to the forces exceeding the capacity of chassis rigidity.

lesson is? look for offerings that allow you to use the OEM top hats. what you lose in a more direct steering feel from coilovers w/ solid upper mounts, you retain in OEM ride quality.

^Funny, after 25k miles on my BCRs (12k/8k) with the pillowball mounts and my DIY install I've got zero noise issues. Yes, pillowball mounts are known to have noise issues; but I'm just speaking from my experience here. I find that the noise issues mentioned on the forum here and from rubber upper mount users that both had a "professional" install them or DIY. I think most don't know there is a pillowball mount option to be honest and what are the best spring rates for their driving style. If you have a budget of $1k for coilovers, there's no better offering in my book. Hit up GoToRacing and speak with Kris; he is a vendor on here.

Same boat, pretty conservative here, I actually sold my coils (BCRs) before I even installed them due to complaints about noises etc... i know it comes with the territory but sorry not worth it to me. I am either going to get swift springs with Fsport shocks, or buy coilovers that use OEM Top hats...

I'm doing research on Coils w/ OEM tophats. Any recommendations? I noticed the custom spring rates, preferred over the 10/8. Whats the better safe than sorry rate to go with?

In all my modding years.. I would always go coil overs. I would only go springs if my budget was low and couldn't bare to deal with the wheel gap. Noise it is hit or miss but you can always take it apart and re do it. DIY rather than a shop. All a shop is, is a place with someone who has experience but not necessarily one the specific make/model. They just have an idea and have performed a similar job on another vehicle. =)

Installed my bc coils 12/10 not too long ago. Had lots of clunking and creaking. Then I set the preload, tightened the dampening bolt & and fine tuned it to where I like it.

5k miles later no clunking or any noise at all. It almost rides like stock given the roAd conditions. Ohio is not easy on our cars since their roads are always jacked up.

I wouldnt say all that because the older version of the Fsport springs had clunk noise issues.

This combo is conservative in regards to the drop, its only 1 inch all around (if even that) and very hard to notice
