Breaks on the floor to stop while backing up
I have had my SC400 for about 6 months now it has new break shoes and break fluid, new bushings, and no leaks. Yesterday when I started backing up out of my drive way I literally had to put the breaks on the floor to stop this happened about 3 times. When i'm just driving like normal they stop pretty easily except while going slow like around 5 mph before stopped at a stop sign, although I do hear a wooshing noise when use them.
I have done some searching and some say a new vacuum check valve is needed, and some say it could be the hose. Has anyone else had this problem? I went up to our local auto parts store to buy a new check valve but the one listed for my sc400 that they have is much smaller than my current one.

If you are hearing a wooosh sound, this is more than likely your brake booster. They cost around $100 or so from the local parts store. Buy it online and pick it up at store, its cheaper. Not to hard to change, but kinda aggravating due to limited room to move around the car. I would also change out the brake master, cause you have to move this and undo this to access the brake booster.

Thank you! I'm heading out to the local parts store now, I also am looking into buying some stainless steel brake lines.....and I just noticed I misspelled brake/breaks in the topic subject doh!

Yeah you did. Thats why I looked at the thread. Caught my attention. GL
LMK what and how it goes. I believe that is the problem. Make sure to bleed your brakes after the install starting with RR, LR, FR, LF. Use Dot 4 or 5 fluid. I hope you are not driving this car around. Kinda dangerous.

You wont believe this, so there I was with the hood up determined to fix my break issue when my father comes up takes one look at it and says "oh your control valve is backwards" WHAT! Sigh I've worked on many cars and even more computers (daily job) but sometimes I miss the easiest things. Before you laugh and mock in my defense its been a long week of sickness and beloved animals passing away but at least this fix didn't cost me any money.
