Default Difference in suspension

Does anyone know if there's a difference in the 2is and 3is suspension? Are they interchangeable?

I believe the rear on 3IS is modified McPherson while the 2IS is McPherson. Correct me if I'm wrong for the suspension term but for certain the rear is not interchangable.

The 2IS uses struts for the rear while the 3IS, has the spring and shock separated.
