Default LS400 brake upgrade, need longer studs

Good morning guys. So I finally installed the LS400 upgrade that I've wanted to do for some time. I had to buy larger 18" wheels, as the current 18's didn't even come close. My question is that I do have to use spacers to clear completely, but only 8-10mm. I'm thinking I would like to add longer wheel studs, just to be safe and ensure safe engagement of the lugs. Local auto parts shop is useless. Does anyone have the correct Dorman part number that would add a few mm to stud length for better / stronger lug engagement?

I didn't count the turns yet when I installed (car is in winter storage), just feel that I needed more. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I don't have a part number but you do need longer studs. The hat on the LS400 rotors is 3/8" thicker than the stock SC rotors, so that alone reduces your threads by that amount. Add a 8 mm spacer and you have reduced the threads holding your wheel on to very few. I read one post on an early thread where the wheel fell off when a person used a 1/2" spacer.

I don't use spacers (GS350 wheels) but if I did I would use longer studs.

Can't you just get the type of spacers that come with built-in studs?

Kind been looking around, haven't found what I like yet. I have the direct number to Dorman, may just call them for suggestions.

In your case I'd just buy 15mm bolt on spacers with the studs that come attached. I drove with similar spacers for two and a half years with zero issues. I'm assuming your current wheels have a high offset in the 30+ range.

This had me both confused and concerned, as I hadn't seen anything elsewhere saying that a LS brake upgrade necessitates longer studs, and I don't really want to change studs again. But, running the numbers, I think it was a math error? (Or, maybe the SC300 has a shorter hat than the SC400, throwing off my comparison?)

According to a few different parts listings I referenced, LS400 rotors are 53.1 mm thick and SC400 rotors are 50.8 mm. That 2.3 mm difference is 0.091", whereas 3/8" (0.375") would be 9.5 mm. So, the stated 3/8" is off by a factor of five.

you only need longer studs if you want to use the simple type of spacer that does not have extra lugs on it.
