Default "Click" sound from front end while turning wheel.

Hi,
I recently started hearing a click (or pop perhaps) from the front and of the car when turning the wheel. It is usually when I hit the brake while turning the wheels while parking the car. It happens intermittently in either direction. The last change I made to the front and was doing the steering rack bushings. I doubt it's relevant, but you never know, the sound started happening soon after that. My mechanic told me it was about time to do the tire rod ends, could needing Tie rod ends replaced make such a sound? I also think it's about time to do front brake calipers as one stuck a bit one day last week, and I could smell it after a hard drive, likely not relevant either but....
Any ideas?

Does it make a sound when you shift your car from drive to reverse? If it does then it might be the lower control arm bushings. I had a similar problem a few years back, and the LCA bushings solved everything.

Could be when I shift as I hear it when parking. I'll check that out when I move the car next.

Thank You!!

Thats a symptom of worn lower control arms. lift the car up and take a prybar to the lower control arm. If you can move it any direction except up or down likely it needs new bushings.
also on 95's there is some special issue with the rear upper contol arms, but not sure if that applies to sc4's or not.

Ali, can you please elaborate on that rear upper control issue if you remember?
Also will my 95 SC Prothane bushings fit the Supra LCA's? I think I may just replace the LCA's as you previously suggested. I already have a full Prothane bushing kit and I would like to use them with the new arms if I can.

Thanks Ali!!!

Mechanics went over the front end pretty extensively. They pointed to a smaller drive shaft looking thing with a joint in the middle up over the wheel. It spins when you turn the steering wheel. They called it a universal joint but they may not have known the Lexus name. There was a big language barrier. What might this part be called?
I need to find out the name and locate one.

Thanks

From your other thread, probably the steering shaft.

The complete part is the steering shaft, but the joint itself is called a universal joint. I'm not sure if you would be able to buy just the joint alone.

try torqu'ing down the subframe bolts. turning the wheel can cause the subframe to rub on the frame and hence the clunk. there should be a thread by upinthelex with the torque specs.

I replaced the lower steering shaft and that fixed the problem. I am happy to learn about this issue/fix as well and I will watch out for it.

Thank You!
