Default Mixing Brake Pads

I had my rear brakes replaced today with SP-Performance cross drilled and slotted rotors, having just done the fronts like a few weeks ago, also upgraded the rotors. When I went to pick it up the guy told me they used posi-quiet pads on the rears while I used Lexus OEM (Low Dust) on the front, and asked for Lexus on the rear. At first I said that I'd like the Lexus ones put on there as I'd asked, but some googling shows the posi-quiets seem fine.

I guess I'm somewhat concerned about mixing them. Honestly they seem ok, and I'd save myself some running around if I just leave the Posi-quiets on there (I believe he said they're ceramics). I'm not super thrilled with this garage, but I'm just not sure this is worth the bother, I have things to do. Has anyone heard of unpredictable braking in hard driving by mixing pads before? Any downsides to mixing them?

I'm sure pads are mixed all the time due to people doing the fronts more often than the rears, but I'd just like some other opinions. Thanks!

Mixing pads front to rear isn't a problem, its done all the time, usually on purpose.

It COULD be a problem if the pad characteristics differ between the front and rear. For street pads, it's probably OK to mix pads front to rear. In any case, the garage should have gotten your approval to deviate from your instructions before they proceeded.

+1 with WylieKylie, some auto manufactures supply their vehicles with mixed combinations and so it is fine. We agree with flowrider in that, the shop should have talked to you first. For now, you are fine with the current setup but do look into another shop that you can trust and better communicate with.

In this case, for what you've described, you'll be fine.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll leave it alone and not use these guys anymore unless I absolutely have to. Being open on Saturdays is a bigger boon for business than it probably should be, but yeah, not enough to ignore this.

You will be fine. I run more aggressive pads on the front of both of my cars, as 70% or so of the stopping power comes from the front. No use in running low brake dust pads on the rear as this is almost never a problem. Front wheels do the majority of the stopping, which is why the front wheels take twice as long to get clean when washing your car......
