Post Tramlining

I'm a new member. Have a 98' 400SC which I purchased in October. I first noticed the tramlining effect when driving it home on the freeway. It had OEM wheels and tires (Goodyear GT+4's). I replaced the tires with new Falcon 512's still on the original wheels and had it aligned. I was disappointed to find that the tramlining was still there. Considered going with the Diaz? bushing replacement but decided to take it back to the alignment shop and have them set it with as much toe in as they could and still stay in spec. This only changed the total toe from 1/16" to 1/8" but I can tell the difference and it's definitely better. I hope it doesn't effect tire wear very much.

it's not really the tires, i had this problem when i had stock tires on. it's how the car was built, the power steering on this car is really sensitive. Pulling the power steering seems to be the only way to fix this. i've went through 4 different sets of tires and the tramlining was always there. it isn't really a big problem unless u live in a area with a lot of broken roads. Like N.Y.C lol. You get use to it though. It doesn't bother me anymore

Thumbs up

I think you've (mrshabo) hit the nail on the head. After reading everything I can find about this problem (tramlining) I, too, think it's just the way the car is built and, although I hadn't thought of it before, you're diagnosis that it's due to the power steering setup makes perfect sense to me. It's not really all that bad and I expect I'll get used to it. I really love everything else about the car.
