Default Steering (tires) follows irregularities in the road

I have a '96 SC4 and anytime the front tires ride over street irregularities that run in the same direction the car is traveling, they just drop right into the groove, dip, unevenness, etc. It makes for a very unpleasant driving experience.

Does this happen to all SC's? Is there a cure for this?

I believe that's called the tramlining effect and it is normal. I don't mind it, in fact I kind of prefer this effect as it gives me better road feel. If you want to reduce the tramlining, buy different tires that don't set on the road as well.

It doesn't happen so much with stock wheels. There are several contributions to following ruts: Larger wheels, more aggressive tires, lower profile tires, wheel offset (the further from 50mm that you go, the more distance between the centerline of the rim and the actual steering axis.) I've also heard that worn lower and upper control arms can affect this. Some have said that stiffer lower A arm bushings will lessen the effect.

Default My Guess...

...is that is had nothing to do with the bushings. I am completely stock and the car tries its best to "follow" the uneven pavement - it's like the Incredible Hulk grabs the steering wheel and pulls it in that direction.

I really hate it. I used to have a 2000 540i 6-speed and that car never did that.

My guess is that its the way the car is built and there is not much that can be done. I think if we could mod the ECU for the power steering, it would not pull so easily, but it will still pull.

I'm tellin ya wheels and tires will fix this problem. Between two sets of wheels and four different tires, the tramlining has changed on my car a lot. I don't even notice it anymore.

------------Come on admit it.... You have a correct wheel fitment.... The Supra TT wheels are the perfect offset for the stock suspension geometry. That was one of my points. Correct offset = better ability to eliminate tramlining.

I've tried some 730's before... I certainly didn't notice any more tramlining (and perhaps less) than Dunlop SP5000s or Kumho MX.

a few things about tramlining. They have alot to do with tires/wheels and pressure and offset. They all need to be something very close to stock settings. If its closet stock settings try wheel alignment.

momo arrow 16x7.5 with 225x50x16 goodyear GT4+ @ 33psi no tramlining 50 offset
milli miglio 17x7 with 225x45x17 potenza R7900 @ 35psi no tramlining 48 offset
racing hart 18x7.5 with 225x40x18 Falken Ziex 512 @ 36psi no tramlinning 34 offset
racing hart 18x7.5 with 225x40x18 Falken Ziex 512 and 1/8" spacer 36psi slight tramlinig 34+1/8"
racing hart 18x7.5 with 225x40x18 Falken Ziex 512 and 1" spacer @ 36psi massive tramlining 34+1"
koenig villain 18x9 with 245x40x18 Kumho Exta MX @ 40psi no tramlining 50 offset.

you need to put alot of tire pressure on those tires.
with wider tires, lower profile tires, firmer bushings you have to expect some tramlining. Try putting some more air in the tires.

Could bethat too, but I wouldn't consider my offsets to be perfect. I could still use an extra 5mm in the rear and 15mm in the front
